This article is from US News and it’s about the problems Obama has to face when he’s in office and because of all the media these days it’s hurting Obama more than helping him. The author goes on to give examples of the type of media we have today like polling data, video clips, and speech transcripts are a few, but what he’s trying to tell us is before only the journalist and political pros had this information now everyone can get it from the internet. I think the author has good detail and explained what he was trying to tell everyone very well.

The third chapter much like the second one doesn’t grab the readers attention enough to be effective. The author uses great detail to explain economics but misses with the language. He tries to help the reader understand the material by using so much detail but he still uses words that the common person wouldn’t understand. I believe this is where he begin to lose his audience because he tries to explain the principles of economics but he has to use graphs and examples that clearly show what he’s trying to say but it’s still difficult for the reader because to understand the graph you must first understand what he’s saying.

As I kept reading into the second chapter the author started to explain what it’s like to think like a economist. He begins to use models and diagrams to get more in depth and help the reader to understand more economics. Though the wording he uses is more how an economist would explain economics not how a normal person would explain economics. It’s hard to follow along with what he’s trying to explain when you have to keep reading the paragraph over and over again.

Microeconomics By: Gregory Mankiw

I read my first chapter of microeconmics and from what I’ve read so far the author, Mankiw, really understands what he’s writing about which would make sense since he was the author. The chapter was about the ten principles of microeconomics and he helps the reader out a bit by telling the reader what the principle is before the reader even starts to read the paragraph. Also he highlights important information in which you might need to know throughout the paragraph. All in all the author makes me feel confident because I feel like he can relay the essential information for me to succeed.

The author of Gates of Fire objective was to tell the reader what exactly happened at the battle of Thermopylae. He achieves his objective because even though he wasn’t actually at the battle he writes it as if he was there listening to every conversation that’s going on. His writing keeps the reader on the edge of his seat and it just seems so real. When the author uses very detailed examples from the battle it tells the reader much more about the battle and makes the reader feel like the author might actually know what he’s writing about very if the author wasn’t really there.

From what I’ve read from this book the author uses great detail throughout the book. Although he uses even more detail when he writes about the battle that took place. He rarely leaves details out of the book. Some details he writes about for instance the way King Xerxes looks talking about how old he looks or what he’s wearing or when he talks about someone’s injuries like missing limbs but he also adds details like how far in distance something is. I feel like he adds all these details to let the readers use their imaginations to recreate the battles in their own minds.

The author of this book makes the text interesting at times but the vocabulary in this book is a little confusing as well. The story is about the battle of Thermopylae so he tells the story in a way that captures the attention of the person who’s reading it. The test is interesting because he talks about the battles in great detail that it almost makes you feel like you’re there. The vocabulary is confusing at times because he uses words and people’s name that date back all the way before jesus, which sometimes turns off the reader and makes the book less interesting.
